Early in the 2009 legislative session homosexual activists launched the latest in their march toward gay marriage and unveiled their "Everything but Marriage" campaign. They have been very open about their ultimate goal and that is full and equal marriage status.
Today hearings were held before Democrat controlled committees and they could not have been prepared for the all people who showed up to testify in opposition to gay marriage. Last year only 2 people showed up to testify but this year it was entirely different story. (See pictures)
Thank you to all who made the trip to Olympia... young, old, families, students, professionals... it made a profound impact and sent a strong message to legislators!

Is there a law that states that the government should rule over our personal relationships? If so, It is unconstitutional. Shouldn't we be spending our time focusing on the loss of our civil liberties instead of encouraging the encroachment of civil liberties? I believe that issues of this nature are to be addressed in family homes and not in the legislature.
Yes, doesn't it just frost you when consenting adults rub their private activities in your face? Hey, it was homosexuals who brought their bedrooms to Oly not the other way around! That is almost as irritating as people who make snide comments on blogs and cowardly hide behind anonymity!
I apologize for getting straight to the point. I meant no offense. I should have started by applauding the fact that you got together with your friends and put a lot of effort into speaking out for what you believe in. And good for you for it.
It does irk me though that the government is even involved in affairs of the family and the church. Our government has gotten way too big for our own good and has invaded virtually every aspect of our freedom including freedom of religion, speech and the right to keep and bear arms which our founding fathers pledged their lives, fortunes and sacred honor to obtain and our forefathers bled for. They would roll over in their graves to see the beast we have allowed the federal government to become.

How about addressing the hypocrisy of being part of a political party that is supposed to support and defend what our founding fathers intended for us to have?

Um...my marriage certificate is issued by the State of Washington. My birth certificate is issued by the state of Washington. Both things that "rule" over my personal relationships. If my husband abuses me (marriage certificate)...they rule over my personal relationship. If someone believes that I am abusing my child...the state aka government rules over my personal relationship (his birth certificate) with him. This state has the definition of a marriage between a man and a woman.
You can disagree but at least be civil and intelligent in your disagreement and use a better vocabulary than "fags".

I did NOT respond to your first post on your opinion of Luanne's entry. Luanne actually was just reporting on what happened...she didn't say "Hey we showed the fags who's boss", just that she went to Olympia and testified in favor of the original definition of marriage. There were more people there than last time. And thank you to all who came to testify.

This issue is a sticking point between Religious Conservatives and Libertarian Conservatives. All in all it's small potatoes compared to the "change" planned for our Country.
What we can agree upon is that we don't want the State (or Federal) government defining rights for groups, and rather continue to protect the rights of the individual.
As Luanne mentioned in her post, her concern is regarding the state continuing their interventionist pattern of trying to re-define marriage.
The solution I propose seems to fit both Conservative factions goals. If we don't want the state re-defining marriage, don't let them define it to begin with.
Why is it necessary for an officiant to have legal documents before they can legally perform what should be a religious ceremony?
At that point all we have to worry about are the Episcopalians ;)
